PricePro Grilled Porterhouse Steak & Tony’s Warm Spinach Salad

This recipe is 100 mile diet friendly.

You will need:

1 PricePro Porterhouse Steak
1 Tbsp Canola Oil
Szegeo World’s Best Steak Rub

4 Island Gold Omega 3 Free Run Brown Eggs
1 Bunch of fresh, washed spinach
1/2 lb of Schneider’s Naturally Smoked Bacon
2 cups of fresh, diced white button mushrooms
2 Tsp Emma Balsamic Vinegar
Pine Nuts (Optional)

Rub your porterhouse steak with oil and Szegeo World’s Best Steak Rub. Place in refrigerator for 2-24 hrs. The longer, the better. Preheat your grill on high heat. Mist grate with oil. Grill your steaks for 3-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your preferred doneness. Allow steaks to rest after they are removed from the grill for at least half the time they were cooked for.

Hard boil the eggs and allow to cool. Dice and fry up the bacon. Once crispy, remove the bacon bits from the pan, leaving the bacon fat. Peel the eggs and take out the yolks. Mash the egg yolks with the bacon fat and add the balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper to taste. Thinly slice the whites of the eggs. Combine spinach and mushrooms and place egg slices on top. Drizzle the dressing over the spinach and mushrooms and sprinkle with your bacon bits and toasted pine nuts if you choose. Serve right away to avoid the spinach wilting.

PricePro would like to introduce our customers to two new additions to our busy bakery department.

PricePro welcomes Simone Bova (left) and Gaurav Varshney to our bakery department.

Together, they bring 35 years of baking experience to PricePro.

Simone Bova and Gaurav Varshney both started this week and each has an interesting story of how they came to their baking expertise.

For Simone, you could say she has 20 years of experience, but really, her love of baking began long before she started earning a living at it.

In fact, she was just five years old when she got her first Easy Bake Oven. That little Easy Bake light bulb did more than just cook cakes – it lit up a lifetime love.

“I was born like this,” Simone says. “Baking has always been a part of me. I baked anything I could. Baked French pasties when I was just 11 years old.”

Simone used to take books on pastry out of the library and experiment in her family’s kitchen. When she was in her 20s and still looking for a career, she took her formal training.

“My boyfriend told me I baked to relax,” Simone says. “I haven’t looked back since.”

Simone has an extensive background as a pastry chef, as well as a creator of artisan breads. She is looking forward to coming up with some special new offerings for customers, with an eye for introducing more ancient grains to PricePro’s bakery department.

“The awareness of different types of grains has really risen with people,” Simone says.

Chocolatier has a nose for baking

For Gaurav Varshney, his love of baking began 15 years ago with his nose.

His original training was in hotel services and he gravitated to the kitchen area for his career – with one area in particular.

“The scent of fresh bread always attracted me,” Gaurav says. “The smell always brought me upstairs to the baking area.”

He’s stayed with baking ever since, adding expertise as a chocolatier.

Gaurav says he loves the atmosphere at PricePro, especially working with side-by-side with the students of Welcome Home Addiction Recovery Academy.

“I like Welcome Home’s concept of ‘Earn, learn and return’,” he says. “It’s gratifying that whatever I do here will have a positive return for others.”

Butcher Burgers

• 1lb PricePro Ground Beef
• 1lb PricePro Ground Pork
• 1 Package Knorr Vegetable Soup Mix
• 1 fresh, minced onion for onion lovers
• 1 egg
• 4 tbsp breadcrumbs
• Olive Oil
• Fresh Baked PricePro Ciabatta Buns

Preheat your grill on high. Combine pork, beef, soup mix, egg, breadcrumbs and onion. For best results, allow mixture to sit overnight. After 24 hours, form the mixture into 1/4 pound patties. After your grill is preheated, turn the heat down to medium. Cook hamburger patties approx. 7 minutes per side (times may vary with different grills). Brush fresh ciabatta buns with olive oil and place sliced-side down on the grill until nicely toasted. Dress the hamburgers to your liking, add toppings and enjoy with:

Cool Beans!

• 1 can, rinsed, of each: chickpeas, red kidney beans, white kidney beans & corn niblets
• 2 cloves of minced fresh garlic
• 2 tbsp white vinegar
• 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
•1 tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley

Combine everything in a bowl and serve cold. For best taste, allow the bean salad to sit for an hour or two.

The Brassard’s are a French-Canadian couple who shop at PricePro. They had this to say about it:

We make our own bacon at home and we have not been able to find the right cut of meat for it until we came to PricePro. We asked Curtis in the meat department and he said that yes, they carry the cut we need. When we saw the size of the piece of pork and the price of it, we were amazed. The pricing is great! We get good advice from Curtis and Kris in the meat department, too. We are going to do an Easter ham and they explained how to brine it, where to inject the marinade, etc. Whenever we ask for anything, it is never a problem. The pumpernickel in the bakery is the best I’ve ever had!

I LOVE PRICE PRO !!! I can honestly say that I spend more money there than anywhere else I shop. The baked goods are cheap and good quality. They often have great door crashers outside. I think maybe they dop some liquidating for some other supermarkets. I bought a fresh cut veggie tray for 2.99 that costs 12.00 at Safeway. Those kind of deals are not unusual for that place. One of the few places that always has fresh brisket and shrt ribs out. I will probably go there today just to see what is up.
